QVC Continues to Expand Footprint by Building New Distribution Center in California

QVS is well known for being the owner and operator of the Shopping Network on television and also being one of the largest e-retailers in the world. While the company has a very dedicated group of customers and has hundreds of millions of dollars in sales each year, their lack of presence in retail malls can be a disadvantage. The main way that they are able to compete with other retailers is finding the quickest ways to get products to their consumers. According to a recent news article (http://www.businessinsider.com/qvc-opens-first-west-coast-distribution-center-2016-8), QVC is taking major steps to ensure they are able to service their customers’ needs on the West Coast.

QVC recently announced that they would be opening their first distribution center on the West Coast of the United States. While the company has typically operated out of distributions centers in the Midwest, the growing communities located across the West Coast and favorable demographics made it perfectly clear that having a West Coast distribution center would be a huge advantage. This should greatly cut down the speed and cost that it takes to deliver products to customers on that side of the Untied States.

Due to its proximity to a variety of highways and close proximity to the major cities in Southern California, QVC ultimately chose to Ontario, California as the destination for their new facility. The online retailer has been preparing the new space for months, but officially held its opening ceremony on Monday.

While the facility will be advantageous for QVC, it will please a variety of other groups of people as well. The Inland Empire and Ontario, CA area should experience some modest job growth. The company has already hired around 500 people to start working and another 500 people are expected to be hired to manage the new 1 million square foot property in the next few years. The new property will also be carbon footprint conscious, as it will greatly reduce the amount of miles that QVC needs to drive. It has been estimated that trucking miles will be reduced by as much as 10 million per year.

Californian Sea Otters Are in Danger Once Again

Californian state authorities are now appealing to the members of the public to help it identify the people who have resorted to killing sea otters in the southern sea. Over the last 15 days, at least four sea otters have found dead in Santa Cruz. Initial examinations reveal that the otters had been shot.

Among the otters shot, two were juvenile males while the rest were adult females. The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service fears that more otters, which are yet to be documented, could have been shot over the last one month. The officials also suspect that another otter might have been shot last week. The otters were washed up along the Californian central coast and must have been killed three days earlier.

The authorities will award up to $10,000 to anyone who has helpful information that could lead to the arrest of the people behind the fatal attacks on these sea mammals. The authorities gave a hotline to enable anyone communicate with them promptly. They encouraged callers to remain synonymous for their own safety.

Otters are carnivorous mammals. They are marine-based with main diet consisting of fish, and other invertebrates such as crabs and frogs. The Californian otters are well known to navigate the sea waters between San Mateo and Santa Barbara. The animals are protected by the Endangered Species Act and the Californian state law. If one is found guilty of killing a sea otter, he or she may be liable for a fine up to $100,000 or a jail time exceeding 12 months. The animals were listed by the federal government as endangered species in 1977 after they were strongly hunted for fur. According to US Fish and Wildlife Service, there are only 3,000 otters remaining in Californian waters.

In 2013 alone, more than four otters were killed, an act that was widely condemned by authorities. Unfortunately, no one was persecuted following the shootings. The state is now appealing to anyone who might have information on the people responsible, or anyone who finds another dead otter to report to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Corrupt New York Investment Bank Under Fire

One Huffington Post Columnist recently observed,”I suspect the ratio of bad investment advice to sound advice is around 10:1.” This sad phenomena was earlier corrected by Warren Buffett, “Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.” A wise investor knows that what the crowd is doing is going to inflate the price for the particular asset that is being bought. Buying high and selling low is not the path to wealth, though that faulty investment philosophy is practiced by many.

Matthew Eitner and James Ahern were recently called to task by a Federal Judge, who placed a restraining order on them for their deceptive behavior toward clients including Relmada Therapeutics. In the suit, Relmada insinuated that Laidlaw was taking revenge for a previous buy out attempt. Laidlaw partners with wealthy retail investors, but it has come into the spotlight because of its dark corporate culture.

One anonymous Laidlaw employee groaned, “The most unprofessional group of people ever assembled on one place.” Laidlaw seems to treat its employees like dumb sheep. “Very Long Hours, terrible pay, not given a real direction,” said another insider. This poisonous culture than bred out into its interaction with clients on the outside.

Fitapelli Kurta, a securities law firm, has heard from several disenchanted investors who were hurt by Laidlaw’s corporate machine. “In 2013 a customer alleged Leonard V. Gallick, Jr, while employed at Laidlaw & Company, executed unsuitable trades,” cites www.stopbrokerfraud.com.

Laidlaw must be held to account for its poor treatment of customers and employees. Such investment institutions like Laidlaw and Company cannot operate with impunity, immune from regulator pressure. It is necessary that all banks operate with an unimpeachable code of ethics and integrity, or risk facing confiscatory penalties. Financial CEO‘s such as Eitner and Ahern are particularly responsible in making sure that their public image matches their personal practice in the company.

Years Long Dream Explodes in Seconds

Mark Zuckerberg’s ambitious goal to bring Internet connectivity through Facebook to millions in Sub-Saharan Africa went up in smoke on a launch pad in Florida today. AMOS-6, a satellite specially developed by Eutelsat for the purpose, was in a SpaceX rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station being prepared for a Saturday launch. As part of the standard pre-launch preparation process, the rocket’s engines were fired up, but something malfunctioned and the entire rocket and its payload, including Facebook’s satellite, went up in flames. The vehicle was unmanned, and there were no injuries suffered during the event.
Facebook has continuously sought ways to increase its traffic and global profile, and believes that bringing the Internet to those currently without access will significantly improve their lives. The California-based company has spent the last year actively exploring ways to expand Internet access to Sub-Saharan Africa, one of the last large areas without either widespread access or the means to economically deliver such access via ground-based infrastructure. AMOS-6 would have bypassed that need from its position in a geostationary orbit, where it could have directly transmitted and received Internet-based communications through ground antennas.
While Zuckerberg acknowledged his disappointment in the incident, he denied that it was a fatal blow to the plan and mentioned a technology known as Aquila, newly developed by Facebook, that might be able to achieve the same ultimate result. He was adamant that Facebook remained fully committed to this goal, and believes strongly in the opportunities that such connectivity can offer to the populations of developing countries who don’t presently enjoy full access. Zuckberg’s Comments on Explosion
Despite growing up before the Internet, many of us would have difficulty imagining life now without it. We survived, and the world even managed to advance for centuries – millennia – without it, but now we’ve grown dependent on it. Our culture and entertainment as well as economy rely on it, so those without are living in what is almost a completely different world. While Facebook certainly expects to reap profit from this venture, it still promises to be one of the most significant charitable acts of the 21st century, and if successful could dramatically transform millions of lives for the better.

Richard Sherman’s Complains About The Stadium Financing

Shying away from speaking his mind is one of Richard Sherman’s trait. Whenever he feels an issue is important, Sherman makes his feelings known in an articulate way.
The latest event to attract Sherman’s interest is stadium fencing. At the ESPN 710, Sherman said that if elected president, he would correct the stadium financing to get the country out of debt ThinkProgress.
To Sherman, it is wrong to spend billions of taxpayers’ money to finance stadium but make the billionaires who benefit directly from the stadium pay for them. This way, Sherman believes he would get the country out of the deficit. The stadium news has been on the NFL news lately. Recently, Commissioner Roger Goodell said that the Bills must remain with other NFL stadium.

Sherman claims have gained support from stakeholders who raised their voices of concerns to the matter of the Bills. Terry Pegula, for instance, is concerned with what is to be done to make the bills remain as they currently are on a favorable basis per ESPN. The objective and the commitment of the stadia management should be to check bills with the aim of making it not rise or not eat into taxpayer’s money. Although Sherman appreciates the importance of stadium to team competition, he feels that funding the stadium from the taxpayers’ funds is unjust, and that should be stopped. Sherman needs the already existing facilities to remain the way they are to cut cost and offer competitive environment throughout NFL.
Typically, in such a situation, the stadium commissioners leave the responsibility of financing the stadium to the municipality and letting the billionaire owner foot a mere 30% of the bill. Sherman sees this as an anomaly in the public financial system since many case studies have shown that this kind of practice hurts the communities which are forced to fund the bills. Contradicting what owners and another public believe in as the advantage to the communities such as short-term benefits of construction jobs and the civic pride, many researchers indicates that cost associated with the building of the stadium outweighs the benefits gained.
If elected president (though the possibility of Sherman elected president is slim) could Sherman get the tax benefits from stadium building entitlement? Only time will tell.

Parents Who Lost Three Young Children in Accident Are Pregnant With Triplets

Chris and Lori Coble of Orange County, California have lived through every parent’s nightmare. In 2007, Lori and her mother Cindy took the Coble’s three children out to celebrate eldest child Kyle’s fifth birthday. On the way home, the family stopped in traffic on the freeway. The children were getting sleepy, ready to get home and take their nap. With no warning, a big rig rounded the bend and slammed into the family’s van doing an estimated 55 miles per hour.

The trauma that the family suffered was so severe that they were split up and taken to separate hospitals. Chris, Lori’s husband, was at work when the accident occurred. He was notified and rushed to the hospital where Lori and Cindy were taken. Together the family started receiving news that their children did not make it. The couple made a pact after the tragic new that they would stick together through it.

Now, according to an article posted on CNN.com, Lori and Chris have announced that Lori is pregnant almost a year after the tragic accident. The couple went with the decision to try in vitro fertilization. Their first try they were successfully fertilized with three embryos- a boy and two girls! The couple felt that it was fate and decided to keep all the embryos. They are now the proud parents of Jake, Ashley, and Ellie. While their youngest children will never replace the eldest that they lost, their home is now filled again with joy, love, and happiness. They also make sure that their youngest children know about their elder siblings in heaven.

The couple have also forgiven Jorge Romero, the truck driver who slammed into their vehicle that day. He was found guilty on three counts of vehicular manslaughter and served a year in jail. The Cobles blame the roadway and the California Department of Transportation for the accident, saying that the exit where the accident took place was a dangerous one.
