Californian state authorities are now appealing to the members of the public to help it identify the people who have resorted to killing sea otters in the southern sea. Over the last 15 days, at least four sea otters have found dead in Santa Cruz. Initial examinations reveal that the otters had been shot.
Among the otters shot, two were juvenile males while the rest were adult females. The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service fears that more otters, which are yet to be documented, could have been shot over the last one month. The officials also suspect that another otter might have been shot last week. The otters were washed up along the Californian central coast and must have been killed three days earlier.
The authorities will award up to $10,000 to anyone who has helpful information that could lead to the arrest of the people behind the fatal attacks on these sea mammals. The authorities gave a hotline to enable anyone communicate with them promptly. They encouraged callers to remain synonymous for their own safety.
Otters are carnivorous mammals. They are marine-based with main diet consisting of fish, and other invertebrates such as crabs and frogs. The Californian otters are well known to navigate the sea waters between San Mateo and Santa Barbara. The animals are protected by the Endangered Species Act and the Californian state law. If one is found guilty of killing a sea otter, he or she may be liable for a fine up to $100,000 or a jail time exceeding 12 months. The animals were listed by the federal government as endangered species in 1977 after they were strongly hunted for fur. According to US Fish and Wildlife Service, there are only 3,000 otters remaining in Californian waters.
In 2013 alone, more than four otters were killed, an act that was widely condemned by authorities. Unfortunately, no one was persecuted following the shootings. The state is now appealing to anyone who might have information on the people responsible, or anyone who finds another dead otter to report to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Mark Zuckerberg’s ambitious goal to bring Internet connectivity through Facebook to millions in Sub-Saharan Africa went up in smoke on a launch pad in Florida today. AMOS-6, a satellite specially developed by Eutelsat for the purpose, was in a SpaceX rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station being prepared for a Saturday launch. As part of the standard pre-launch preparation process, the rocket’s engines were fired up, but something malfunctioned and the entire rocket and its payload, including Facebook’s satellite, went up in flames. The vehicle was unmanned, and there were no injuries suffered during the event.
Facebook has continuously sought ways to increase its traffic and global profile, and believes that bringing the Internet to those currently without access will significantly improve their lives. The California-based company has spent the last year actively exploring ways to expand Internet access to Sub-Saharan Africa, one of the last large areas without either widespread access or the means to economically deliver such access via ground-based infrastructure. Sherman claims have gained support from stakeholders who raised their voices of concerns to the matter of the Bills. Terry Pegula, for instance, is concerned with what is to be done to make the bills remain as they currently are on a favorable basis per ESPN. The objective and the commitment of the stadia management should be to check bills with the aim of making it not rise or not eat into taxpayer’s money. Although Sherman appreciates the importance of stadium to team competition, he feels that funding the stadium from the taxpayers’ funds is unjust, and that should be stopped. Sherman needs the already existing facilities to remain the way they are to cut cost and offer competitive environment throughout NFL.
Typically, in such a situation, the stadium commissioners leave the responsibility of financing the stadium to the municipality and letting the billionaire owner foot a mere 30% of the bill. Sherman sees this as an anomaly in the public financial system since many case studies have shown that this kind of practice hurts the communities which are forced to fund the bills. Contradicting what owners and another public believe in as the advantage to the communities such as short-term benefits of construction jobs and the civic pride, many researchers indicates that cost associated with the building of the stadium outweighs the benefits gained.

Chris and Lori Coble of Orange County, California have lived through every parent’s nightmare. In 2007, Lori and her mother Cindy took the Coble’s three children out to celebrate eldest child Kyle’s fifth birthday. On the way home, the family stopped in traffic on the freeway. The children were getting sleepy, ready to get home and take their nap. With no warning, a big rig rounded the bend and slammed into the family’s van doing an estimated 55 miles per hour.
The trauma that the family suffered was so severe that they were split up and taken to separate hospitals. Chris, Lori’s husband, was at work when the accident occurred. He was notified and rushed to the hospital where Lori and Cindy were taken. Together the family started receiving news that their children did not make it. The couple made a pact after the tragic new that they would stick together through it.
Now, according to an article posted on CNN.com, Lori and Chris have announced that Lori is pregnant almost a year after the tragic accident. The couple went with the decision to try in vitro fertilization. Their first try they were successfully fertilized with three embryos- a boy and two girls! The couple felt that it was fate and decided to keep all the embryos. They are now the proud parents of Jake, Ashley, and Ellie. While their youngest children will never replace the eldest that they lost, their home is now filled again with joy, love, and happiness. They also make sure that their youngest children know about their elder siblings in heaven.
The couple have also forgiven Jorge Romero, the truck driver who slammed into their vehicle that day. He was found guilty on three counts of vehicular manslaughter and served a year in jail. The Cobles blame the roadway and the California Department of Transportation for the accident, saying that the exit where the accident took place was a dangerous one.
