It’s an unfortunate truth, but many children go without needed, regular dental care. The people behind Operation Smile are trying to close the gap on the problem. This year, New Jersey Dentist, Avi Weisfogel is helping the organization out.
Dr. Weisfogel has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Operation Smile. The goal of his campaign is $2000. Operation Smile is an international charity that provides free oral surgery for children. The types of surgeries the organization helps out with include cleft palate, cleft lips, and other facial deformities.
According to Dr. Weisfogel, Operation Smile, “believes that every child deserves exceptional surgical care and to be treated as if they were one of our own.”
The organization works together with local doctors, hospitals, and other organizations to get the most effective help for as many kids as they can. Depending on the situation, sometimes the effort includes getting special equipment relocated to a medical facility to help a child.
Founded in 1982 by Bill and Kathy Magee, the first mission was to help kids in the Philippines. Since then they have thousands of volunteers around the world in 80 different countries. Over 220,000 children have benefited from free surgeries provided by Operation Smile.
Weisfogel has been working in dentistry for nearly 20 years. His main focus is the combination of dentistry and sleep medicine. He owns Dental Sleep Masters where he helps dentists recognize and help patients with sleep apnea.
