Oregon and Oregon State Going to Sweet 16

Getting to the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament is a testament to a good program, and winning thwo games once in the tournament is even tougher but the State of Oregon can hang its hat on the fact that two of their programs have advanced on to the Sweet 16: the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers.

Oregon’s women’s basketball team has been truly dominant all season, and only dropped 4 games in the regular season compared to an impressive 32 wins. So far in the tournament the Ducks haven’t been challenged. In the first game they were never challenged by Seattle, winning 88-45. In the second round Oregon took on a fiery Minnesota team, but Oregon’s high octane offense simply overpowered Minnesota the entire game, Oregon winning by a score of 101-73. The Ducks take on another team from the Midwest: the 11-seed Central Michigan Chippewas who are looking to continue their historic season and surprising tournament run.

Meanwhile the Oregon State Beavers earned only a 6 seed in this year’s tourney. Though, perhaps they were under-seeded as they finished 3rd in a tough Pac 12 conference this season and finished 25-7. Oregon State arrives in the Sweet 16 fresh off an upset over women’s basketball blue-chip program the University of Tennessee. To make things even more impressive, the Beavers won on Tennessee’s home court, which is one of the more difficult places to play in the country. In round one Oregon State handled Western Kentucky with relative ease, 82-58. Up next for the Beavers is a matchup with the Baylor Bears. It’ll be a true test for Oregon State, as the Bears looked hard to stop in their 80-58 thrashing of Michigan — not to mention they only have one loss on the year.

While the fan-bases of Oregon and Oregon State may be bitterly divided when the two teams play each other, perhaps they will take solace this year in knowing that both programs have had extremely successful seasons. And while it’s unlikely, who knows, with the way the two major Oregon girl’s programs they could end up meeting each other in the championship game in Columbus, Ohio. But in a do-or-die tournament any coach will keep their team focused on taking things one game at a time.

49ers Look to Future

2017 was a very interesting season for the San Francisco 49ers. Going into the season, the team seemed to be heading in the wrong direction. They were still struggling to find a quarterback and did not seem to have a lot of talent to build on. While they arguably had a very good draft, most people did not expect much out of the team in 2017.

At the start of the season, most people were proven right about their predictions for the 49ers. The team struggled out of the gate and quarterback Brian Hoyer was not able to move the ball at all. Hoyer was ultimately hurt and replaced by rooking quarterback CJ Beathard who also had struggles. While the season was not going well, most people agreed that the team would make a big splash during the offseason and go after a new quarterback that would give hope for the future.

While the 49ers clearly needed a quarterback, they ended up getting one much sooner than originally predicted. The team ended up trading with the New England Patriots for backup quarterback Jimmy Garropolo. After learning the playbook for a few weeks, Garropolo was ultimately named the starter the last five weeks of the season. The team miraculously ended up winning their last five games. While they missed the playoffs, the team has plenty of momentum heading into the new season.

While the 49ers have a lot of momentum already, the team has also been able to attract some key free agents. One of the top signings that came this offseason came when the team signed cornerback Richard Sherman (http://www.sacbee.com/sports/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/article206039714.html). Sherman previously spent his entire career with 49ers’ bitter rival, the Seattle Seahawks. During his time in Seattle, Sherman made several Pro Bowl teams and even won a Super Bowl.

Now that Sherman is in San Francisco, the defense could be set and the team could be poised to win a lot of games. As the NFL draft continues to approach, the team will look for more ways to add talent and depth to its roster. The 49ers will likely look to use their first round pick to add another piece to its already young and talented defense. However, there are some skill players they are considering as well.

Warriors Look to Build Momentum

For the past several seasons, one of the most exciting teams in the NBA has continued to be the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors have won three straight western conference championships and have won the NBA title in two of those seasons. The team, which is led by a variety of dynamic offensive players including Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson, has continued to be dominant and break a variety of scoring records.

While the Warriors are once again poised to move on to the playoffs, the team looks like they may have more competition than ever before to make it back to the NBA Finals. With only about 10 games left in the regular season, the Warriors sit about 3 games back of the first-place Houston Rockets. The Rockets have been led all year by starting guard James Harden, who also looks like a favorite to win the NBA MVP award.

As the Warriors end the regular season, they will have a number of very challenging games. One of these games occurred earlier this week when they played in a very tough game against the San Antonio Spurs (https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/03/20/golden-state-warriors-scores-highlights-san-antonio-spurs-news-injuries-stephen-curry-draymond-green-kevin-durant-joe-lacob/). The Spurs, who have also been a top team in the conference for nearly 20 years, have continued to find ways to slow the Warriors down. This past game was no different as the Warriors ended up losing by a score of 83-75, which is one of the lowest point totals that the team has had in a very long time.

Part of the reason why the team struggled was due to the fact that the team was recovering from a lot of different injuries. Four of the typical starters on the team did not play, including Curry and Durant. This left players Draymond Green and Quinn Cook to try and carry the load. While they both put forth a lot of effort, they were outmatched the whole game.

While the game is not necessarily a great indication of how the team will perform down the stretch due to the amount of players that were out of the game, it does show that they may not be as deep as they were in prior years. The Warriors will need to continue to rely on their top stars in order to succeed in the playoffs

Chargers Focusing on Defense in Draft

During the 2017 NFL season the Los Angeles Chargers were one of the most interesting teams in the league. In their first season in Los Angeles after moving north from San Diego, the Chargers ended up surprising a lot of people by finishing with 9 wins and 7 losses and finishing second in the very competitive AFC West division. The Chargers started off the year very rough by losing their first four games and three of their first nine. However, the team bounced back very well and won six of their last seven games.

While the Chargers finished the season well, the season was considered a disappointment, as the team did not advance to the playoffs. However, there were many bright points on the roster during the year. Despite getting older than the average QB, Philip Rivers once again looked like a top talent. He ended up finishing the year with over 4,500 yards passing and 28 touchdowns. His top target was once again Keenan Allen, who made the Pro Bowl and had nearly 1,400 yards receiving with over 100 catches. The team also relied on young running back Melvin Gordon who had over 1100 yards.

While the Chargers finished the year well and have plenty of reason for optimism, the team knows that they will have a lot to contend with next year. The Kansas City Chiefs, who won the division last year, will once again be a formidable opponent. Also, the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders are both expected to bounce back next year. Due to the increased competition, the team will need to find ways to build and improve. One of the best ways that they can do this is through the draft and the team has many plans that could help bring in some young talent (http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/sd-sp-nfl-mock-draft-2018-two-round-projections-20180221-story.html)

Most people expect that the Chargers will go after defense early in the draft. One of the most likely picks for the team, which drafts number 17 overall, will be to grab Da’Ron Payne, who was a DT at Alabama last year. Payne will help the team improve its defense and run stopping. In some of the later rounds the team may look for a backup quarterback and possible long-term replacement for Rivers who may retire in a few years. .

49ers to Have Big Draft

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most successful NFL franchises on record. The franchise has won a very impressive amount of Super Bowls and is the home team for some of the best players in NFL history. Heading into the 2017 NFL season, the 49ers were not considered by many to be a top tier team. They did not have a very successful year in 2016 and seemed to be in the process of rebuilding.

The 2017 season did not start off very well. The team lacked consistency from the quarterback position and struggled to find cohesion on defense. Through the first 11 games of the year, the team had just one win. However, all of that changed when the team traded for quarterback Jimmy Garropolo. Garropolo was a backup quarterback for the New England Patriots and was very successful when he was able to play. Due to his age, track record, and skill set he was expected to be a very highly sought after free agent this offseason. The 49ers ended up trading for him and got him for just a 2nd round draft pick.

Once Garropolo got in the starting lineup, things turned around immediately. He ended up leading the team to 5 straight wins and the team is now considered to be one of the favorites to make the playoffs next year. While they had a very strong finish to the year, the team is now looking forward to the next season. One way that they will do this will be by focusing on the draft (https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Niners-May-Have-Eyes-on-Big-Oklahoma-State-Receiver-474855573.html).

Last year, the 49ers made one of the big moves of the year when they traded down just one pick and picked up several additional selections from the Chicago Bears. The team now has a lot of different picks to use over the next few years that could be used to acquire much needed depth. The team is reportedly focused on drafting a wide receiver in the first few rounds that could provide the team with speed and open up the field. One of the players that they are also looking into is Marcell Ateman. Ateman is a very big body that had a very productive year for his school last year and could excel in the NFL.

NBA to Return to Seattle for One Night Only

If you’re from anywhere around Washington, you know by now that the Seattle Supersonics were one of the greatest things about Seattle. When they were sold in 2008 and turned into the Oklahoma City Thunder, the entire city was in an uproar. It has been 10 years since then, and the NBA has big news.

For one night only, the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors are playing in the former home of the Sonics, the Key Arena. The news was released earlier today, and everyone is encouraged to wear their Sonics gear.

The Golden State Warriors are a popular enough team that lots of people will come up to Seattle just to see them. On Twitter, lots of different people are noticing that the NBA does look interested in putting a team back in Seattle. Why else would they hold a game there? Fans have been using the hashtag “#SonicsRising” to show their support, and to try to sell out the Kings-Warriors games, and fill the stands with green and yellow.

The Sonics were founded in 1968 under the name “Seattle Supersonics” and have been one of the most enduring parts of the city. The Sonics have only won one championship back in 1979, but have still been loved by the city throughout.

Today, you can often see “Bring the Sonics Back” merchandise roaming the streets of downtown Seattle. Even though the trade was 10 years ago, the dedicated fanbase is still very hurt and longing for another team back up in the Pacific Northwest.

Rumors are that the Kings may become the new Sonics, and that is why they are holding the game up here with the Kings and Warriors. Others suggest that the Milwaukee Bucks or Atlanta Hawks may be moved up to Seattle to wear the green and yellow jerseys the city adores.

Nevertheless, whether Seattle gets their Sonics back, the Kings-Warriors game will be one to watch. The game is scheduled for October 6th, 2018.

Michel Terpins is Currently the Leading T1 Prototype Category Driver in Brazil

Despite being one of the highest rated rally drivers in Brazil today, Michel Terpins’s first professional race was as a motorcycle rider. Unlike many before him, he, however, made a successful shift from motorcycles to cars. He has particularly gone on to specialize in the T1 prototype category of the rally cars. Today he races in a powerful T-Rex developed and maintained by MEM Motorsport.

Fortunately for Michel Terpins, his elder brother, Rodrigo is also a rally driver. Consequently, over the years he has always had someone to share his passion with, watch and learn from. Rodrigo has himself taken part in many editions of the Sertoes rally, albeit not as many as Michel. Together with their co-drivers, the two make up the Bull Sertoes Rally Team. The continued support of the team is facilitated by sponsorship from organizations such as Bull Sertoes, Motul, 100% events, Ohlins and the already highlighted MEM Motorsport.

Michel Terpins’s greatest rallying achievement came in the recently concluded Sertoes Rally. In his tenth time taking part in the seven-section rally, he emerged first in the highly competitive T1 category. The win was a dominant one for Terpins as he was able to create and expand a lead throughout the last four sections of the rally. In addition to his exceptional driving skills and unwavering navigation from his co-driver, Maykel Justo, the win can be attributed to the high performance of the T-Rex. By winning the Sertoes rally, Terpins and Justo have inched a lot closer to becoming the overall winners of the National Cross Country Championship.

The 2017 edition of the Sertoes rally marked only the second year that Michel Terpins has been working with Maykel Justo. Justo is, in fact, more experienced in the rally than Terpins, having taken part in one more event. Over the course of his extensive motorsport career, Justo has navigated for both rally cars and trucks and was part of the winning team during the 2014 Pro Brazil category. As the two continue to improve their driver-navigator relationship, considerably more success is expected to come along the pair’s way.
