Friday was a busy day for the Spark of Love toy drive. Dozens of businesses and individuals delivered toys that would be given out to families in need of gifts for Christmas. Subaru was one of the companies that had a trunk full of gifts. Another company that delivered toys was Cal State Athletics. Over 300 toys were collected by the company to help those in need. The toys were collected by student-athletes who wanted to do something special for other children in the area. The students set a goal for the year, and they exceeded that goal by collecting dozens of more toys than what they wanted.
Celebrities joined in as well by bringing toys to help Spark of Love. There were people dressed as Star Troopers who came out to bring toys and to help sort through the ones that had been delivered. Many of the people who delivered toys on Friday were able to drive through as volunteers took the gifts from trunks and back seats. Children came out to donate stuffed animals and other toys to children their own ages who might not have anything on Christmas morning. Many of the people who helped with the Stuff A Bus campaign came back to donate toys for Christmas.
The toy collection event only lasted for a few hours on Friday. Supervisors from companies dropped off toys until the final few minutes of the event to ensure that as many children as possible could be helped the next day. Community organizations used the toy collection as a way to reach out to others as members volunteered their time by sorting through items and by donating toys. This is was an event that took numerous people working together to coordinate and complete. The end result is one of compassion and support for families who don’t have a lot of money to purchase toys for their children or even the basic necessities that families need a lot of the time.
