Basis is a supplement created by Elysium Health that is intended to promote overall wellness through supporting the functions of metabolism, creation of energy, DNA health, cellular health, and other basic biological functions.
What is Elysium Health?
Elysium Health was founded in 2014 by two entrepreneurs and a trained scientist. The scientist, Dr. Leonard Guarente, is currently employed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the Director of the Glenn Laboratory for the Science of Aging, a highly prestigious position.
Elysium Health also partners with a handful of other scientists and physicians, serving the likes of Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, and Duke, all some of the best universities in the English-speaking world.
What does Basis contain?
Basis consists of six ingredients, although only two of them are active. Four of them – microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, silica, and hypromellose – are used to create the capsules that contain the primary ingredients. The two active ingredients are nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene.
Nicotinamide riboside is a precursor to the naturally-occurring compound nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, which is found throughout the human body in cells and other microorganisms. Virtually every living plant and animal cell contain at least trace amounts of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.
Pterostilbene is a compound that promotes the regular function of sirtuins, proteins that allow cells to function how they’re supposed to. Without NAD+, sirtuins cannot function. NAD+, created directly by nicotinamide riboside, works in conjunction with pterostilbene to promote cellular health and regular bodily function.
250 milligrams of nicotinamide riboside and 50 milligrams of pterostilbene are found in each capsule.
Clinical trials involving Basis
Earlier this year, a clinical trial was conducted that sought to find what scientists at Elysium Health already knew – its combination of two primary ingredients boosted the prevalence of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide in the human body.
After four weeks of daily intake, the serum concentration of NAD+ rose between 40% and 90%, on average, depending on the level of intake – those who took 1 capsule’s worth of ingredients a day, compared to 2 capsules’ worth, respectively.
Where can Basis be found?
Consumers are able to purchase Basis without a recommendation at their official website, ElysiumHealth.com. Basis, which is sold in bottles of 60 capsules, can be found as low as $40 per bottle with a year-long subscription.
Does Elysium Health offer any supplements outside of Basis?
As of today, Elysium Health does not have any supplements or products on the market outside of Basis. However, the organization is constantly planning, researching, and preparing the clinical trials of other products. There are currently products in pre-clinical programs related to stem cell, muscle, and cellular health fields, all intended to be used by humans to promote healthy bodily functions.
